Frerard Contest Results! and September!

Fri Sep 12, 2008, 6:39 AM
Okay, so first off, I'm a horrible person who's life has gotten so busy, she even mixed up the dates on when her Frerard contest was over. Thank goodness I realized when I woke up this morning that I'd said the 10th, not the 12th. So sorry to all who waited. I am going to judge right now! But before I do, I'm going to point out what I liked about each story because I have time, and I think you guys deserve that. Thank you so much for entering! I'm excited and thankful to get to read about one of my favorite pairings!!!!!

*weitmare 's Crush [link]

I loved the chemistry in this story, and I don't mean the class :D You captured the teenage insecurities, the excitement of a new crush, and of course, the fluffiness at the end. An adorable story that made me smile.

~Rageandlove77's All for love [link]

I really like how you incorporated the picture, giving good details to the interview action. I also really enjoyed how you described Frank looking at Gerard. For a first one shot, I'd like to say you did well and that the situation was believable and awww worthy :D

~kaytieway2's Simple Stage Kiss [link]

Love Gerard's mischievousness :D And I found Frank's inner commentary hilarious, reminding me of the crazy things we say to ourselves when we like someone. The way you formatted it made it easy to follow the story, and overall, I'd say it was a very enjoyable explanation of how Frerard got started.

~IMGir156's A Presence in Waking [link]

An interesting and almost abstract kind of piece. It's not your typical Frerard, with it's pretty somberness. It was interesting to see what was gotten out of the picture, and I give kudos for taking it in a new direction.

~blackphoenix14's Fish Lips [link]

Once again, I like how this person used the picture. Beautifully written, I felt like I'd stumbled on Gerard's thoughts or a love letter he kept hidden in a drawer. The intimacy and confidence they shared was evident, and anyone who can incorporate the phrase Fish Lips and make it sound so poetic gets huge props from me.

*xthedreamisrealx's The Kiss .:Trust Me:. [link]

This was the last entry I received. Let me just say that I was a little worried about this picture because it could possibly limit the writer's creativity. That is the last thing I think happened with this story. Well written, I felt in touch with Frank's thoughts, like I knew him, which makes you care about his character. Her style didn't use dialogue, and yet she captured that time in MCR's life and with their "I'm Not Okay" video believably without it. A stable beginning and a strong end, this piece was solid all the way through. So that is why, I would like to say congratulations to the winner of the contest. You blew my socks off, and I thank you for writing such a wonderful one shot.

And thank you again to everyone who participated. You guys all had your own styles and your own great stories to tell. I am honored and delighted to get to read all of these! Please continue in writing, whether it is Frerard or otherwise.

Frerard Contest and Anniversary

Thu Sep 4, 2008, 7:33 PM
Today is August 22nd, 2008. It has been two years to the day that Stephanie and I met and befriended one another, and I'd just like to say to Stephanie, Happy Anniversary, I heart you!, and here's to friendship.

And in honor of this momentous occasion, I told Steph I would throw a little Frerard Contest, as she and I both love an excuse to read some good Frerard. So, any Frerard writers out there or people that just want to try their hands at it, you are so welcome and encouraged to brighten our lives a little more with your marvelous stories, whether they be heartbreaking or cotton candy blissful.

So this is how it works. Contest is set to run exactly two weeks and ends on Sept. 5th.

Note me (and this was inspired by IMGir156's contest from not too long ago) and I will link you to a photo that I will have picked of Gerard and Frank together, and that photo will serve as your inspiration. Everyone will have a different photo. There will only be one winner.

All of this is done in the spirit of fun and for Frerard lovers' enjoyment :D So if you're interested, note me. I am hopeful and excited to see at least a few entries.

Update!: The Contest HAS BEEN EXTENDED to SEP 10TH!!!! Sorry to all for my absence, I just started classes.

We Interrupt This Contest Promo...

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 6, 2008, 4:20 PM
...For a brief feature from our host.

Hi there. So apparently, giving lit features is the new cool thing to do, (well, it's always been cool but my buds *weitmare and =wildmonky are getting my attention with it at the moment) and since no one wants to be uncool, I decided I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon.

But seriously, there's some pretty dang good stuff comin' out of the woodworks lately, so I went over some recent lit favorites and decided that I'm going to give some love while there aren't any July submissions really to feature yet for the A Year In The Making Contest.

So let the lit love commence!

My first feature is for

:iconweevilgirl:.

1. Today ( [link] ) Poem. Left me staring in awe. Start and keep reading. You'll be glad you did.

:iconmeadowcress:

2. Holiday Rush ( [link] ) Prose. My lips still turn up in a smile when I read this.

:iconfrazzled-mage:

3. Bolshevik Mistress ( [link] ) Poem. Oh, so witty.

:iconladylazarus:

4. Suicide of a Celebrity ( [link] ) Poem. Read, stop, and think.

:iconqueenhrosie:

5. The Last Three Poems Left ( [link] ) Poem. You'll wish there were more than three.

:iconlivingcomforteagle:

6. what they say about dying men ( [link] ) Poem. Though I read it in a prose way. Vomit is a lot more beautiful to me now.

:iconweitmare:

7. "Morning's Regret: ( [link] ) Prose. Okay, this is short story with chapters. I've been reading this for a while now, and it seems I'm not the only one ever waiting for the next update.

:iconthornyenglishrose:

8. Tilda ( [link] ) Prose. A very touching story from a child.

:iconopaquediaphanousness:

9. Laundromat ( [link] ) Poem. Not just about your whites and colors.

:iconmistresschizz:

10. Comfortable Illusions ( [link] ) Poem. I found this by chance one day. It left me feeling stuck in sleeping and waking and the images your mind conjures as you struggle to fall into one or the other.

Also, for any Fanfic Frerad lovers:

My favorite stories by my favorite Frerad writers on dA.

:iconglitter-gulch:

1. ~glitter-gulch 's Tales of Endurance. (starts here: [link] ) I'm hooked. Absolutely hooked. Please join me in having withdrawals as I wait for the next update.

:iconagoddessfinch:

2. =AGoddessFinch 's Just Go For It Already ( starts here: [link] ) Sigh. These addictions are killing me.

:iconselfishthoughts:

3. ~selfishthoughts' N.O.W. ( starts here: [link] ) Complete! Two parts. Alternate endings. Love!

:iconimgir156:

4. ~IMGir156 's A Four Letter Word ( starts here: [link] ) Also, not yet finished. One of the cutest yet not cutesy fics I've ever read.

So there you have it. A little something for everyone! There are tons more, I promise, as dA is filled with talented writers galore. I'm just trying to make an attempt for one scratch of the surface.

Intro:

Hey, want to do something that will not only help you stay involved all year without taking too much time and perhaps grow in your work, but also get the chance to win stuff?!? Well, then, let me introduce my year long contest that will have you submitting something every month. Yes, every month.

This is something I started for those of us who don't have a lot of time or are just a bit lazy. It's motivation to really get creative, because a little incentive goes a long way.

Just try this.

It'll be fun, I promise.

Formalities:

Rule 1.

This contest is open to:
Poetry
Prose
Photographs
Traditional and Digital Art

Rule 2.

Pieces are not to focus on the weather or holidays of the month. References to these can occur, but what is really wanted are experiences, memories, something that connects you personally, even if you make it entirely fictional, to that specific month.

Creativity is the key.

My own personal entries just for the heck of it do not in any way serve as a model.

Rule 3.

You cannot submit the 12 months at one time. You have to wait for each month to come up to submit it. For example: Now is January, so I will only accept January submissions. However, once a month has passed, you can still enter the previous months. If you don't see this til March, obviously you will want to submit all the months before to catch up. But please, this does not mean, unless you just happen to see it at December, that you can wait until December to submit everything. Try to keep up with submitting pieces as it will make it less stressful on all.

Rule 4.

Must be new pieces. Not old pieces. Not old works dusted off and spiffied up. And your own work. Brushes and stock are allowed for photos and art pieces. If you are submitting poetry or prose and use preview images, it has to be your image. Not a photobucket picture fixed up in Photoshop and called yours.

Rule 5.

You can enter a piece in every category for every month or which month you choose, but you are limited to TWO in the same category if you are only submitting in one category.

Rule 6.

On Submission: When you post it, note me with the link and the title of the piece, or I will not know you are entering. You must do this to be officially entered.
Also, in your post's author's comments, you must credit this contest and link to the journal (here ----> [link] ) so that others can get involved if they want. If you do not link and credit this contest, you will not be judged. You will be put on the participants' list still but will not be eligible to win.

To link your piece, just copy the web address of your piece in comments box note box. It'll show up as a link. Do the same for the journal in your author's comment box. Just for those of you who aren't sure how to link stuff.

Please follow all rules carefully.

You will not be eligible to win if you do not follow all rules, even if you only don't note me correctly. In the past I've let rules slide on contests, but in an attempt to keep everything neat and stress free, this time, I will remind you only so many times to make sure you've followed everything, and then after that, it's up to you. Please do not think me a tyrant, lol. Rules are just rules.

There are no limits on prose and poetry, but please, keep them within reason.

I'll be taking notes on pieces as they come, but nothing will be judged until the end of the year, December 31st. that gives everyone a chance to participate and perfect their entries. You've got a whole year people!

Judging:

There will be four big winners at the end of the year for each category, and 12 (!!!!) winners for each respective month. I know life gets busy and you might not be able to finish all months, but you might still win a month, but only people who complete pieces for all 12 months are eligible to be considered for one of the four big winners in their category.

On Prizes:
So not only do you get the pat on the back from meeting a challenge and growing in your work throughout the year, you get STUFF!

So far, this is what awaits those who dare to take on the presented challenge...

All monthly winners may receive:
:bulletred: Your choice of any post card print.
:bulletred: Accessories by ~ladybugbeads

The top winners at the end of the year for each category may receive:
:bulletred: A 3 month subscription.
:bulletred: A choice of devWear stickers or keychain or buttons.

Attention All Artist Participants: *Marz7337 will feature all winners in the Traditional and Digital Art category in her journal.
Attention All Lit Participants: *weitmare will feature all winners in the literature categories in her journal.

If you'd like to donate a feature, that would be wonderful! Just contact me and I'll add your feature to the list of prizes. We still don't have a feature for photograph yet.

If you have ideas (within reason) for prizes or would like to donate a prize or feature for the winners, please message me. That's all I've got for now, but you never know when things might be added so stay tuned!

Oh, and all winners will have a feature in my journal for the entire month of January '09.

Feel free to comment or note me ( *ElectroBaby ) with any questions that you may have.

If you are interested, spread the word and let's rock '08!
